Hello old friends  Grin

Order says we split out of pocket medical expenses 50/50.

Custodial Ex finally used the new insurance and I got the notification from BCBS that he took YDS to the doctor and so much was paid for this and that and $72 would be owed to the provider.  It's not a bill, just a notification that a bill is coming.

Now, it's one thing if ex asks me to pay my half but I doubt custodial ex will pay it at all.  I'm confident he'll ignore it like any other non-utility bill.  But am I ultimately responsible for it since I'm the insured?  I don't think I'm the guarantor at the pediatrician since i had that changed years ago.   Huh

Not sure about your situation PP...but can tell you what happened to me.

Back in the day when my kids were small and I provided insurance...had a couple of the Docs try to bill me directly even though she was CP and took the kids in the first place.  I politely wrote back to the Dr, explained the situation and had her billed.....when/if she provided me with proper documentation, I reimbursed her for the bill.  I did not deal with the providers.  Now, having said that, my decree also stipulated that I was to reimburse her....I just held her to what the decree ordered.

Not sure if that helps, but it is the best I can do.

My recollection is that the liability for medical services flows to the person who signed for the services, not to the holder of medical insurance used to obtain those services.

All of the bills for my husbands sons are billed in his name because he provides he health insurance.  Of course, the dr.'s won't put OUR address on the bills so they go to her.  She never gives them to him and will only on occasion tell him that there even is a bill AFTER it goes to a collection agency.  They are suppose to split the out of pocket expenses 50/50 but she NEVER pays her part.  He always pays the full amount so his credit isn't messed up.  He never makes her pay him back though.

Goes along with the fact that he refuses to have the child support fixed as he's paying 2 1/2 times state guidelines.  Drives me insane....but I just keep my mouth shut. Grin

Climbing off my soapbox now.

I feel your pain.  My husband does not like to deal with his x, so he just goes along.  But now the oldest stepson is 19 and things have to be changed. So we are trying to get everything settled so that he does not have to deal with her.  So know that there are others going thru it with you.

My girls' insurance is paid for by me, and all healthcare bills come to me. My ex reimburses for half the medical expenses for them.
