I have no idea how to go about filing for separation. My husband is in Missouri (we just moved there May 1) and I just moved to Alabama to take a "break". I want to file for separation but I don't know what the requirements are or where to get the paperwork. I'm pretty lose on all of this stuff. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Pretty much, you won't be able to file anything until you've established residence in AL. I'm not sure how long that is in AL, but a good guideline is 6 mos. He would need to establish residence in MO before filing.

It's 6 months in one county. you have to file in that county in AL. you will also need an affidavit from someone who knows you saying you have lived in X county for the last 6 months.  BTDT.

You may also bring the past 6 months of uitility bills with your name on them as proof that you have lived in the same place for 6 months.
