Can a contempt of court disappear from a clerk's office without any paperwork? Ex filed contempt, have copy stamped with the clerk's name, date, and time. Now 5 months later the clerk's office told my attorney no record of a contempt is there. Wouldn't paperwork have to be filed to dismiss a contempt?

It's the nature of court business that integrity of record-keeping is its stock in trade. If you have a document bearing the court's stamp and the court now says that document was never filed, someone should be deeply ashamed and scrambling to find out what happened.

Go to the courthouse and check the docket sheet on the inside cover of the file. Even if the document is missing for some reason, the docket sheet should list everything ever filed in the case.
