People who divorce are less healthy than people who stay married. And people in bad marriages are less healthy than people in good marriages. These are the findings of recent research at Duke University and the University of Chicago. Here’s a story about it from the CBS Early Show.
The study looked at factors like depression, chronic disease, and restricted mobility. It found a strong link between chronic illness that develops over time, like diabetes and cancer, in people who had a disruption in their marriage. The researchers speculate that this corollation is due to the effect of heightened stress over long periods of time.
