The formal rabbinic tradition for divorce is to obtain a “Ghet,” or “Get.” For help with the practical side of the Ghet, you need to take a look at Kayama, an organization that helps people obtain a Ghet. They have a good explanation about what is a Get, and why it makes sense to go through the process.
