Utah Divorce

These are the best resources I’ve found so far for dealing with divorce in Utah, including child support, property division, and the other legal issues you face when you’re going through divorce in Utah.

I haven’t yet identified a DivorceInfo Network Lawyer for Utah.

If you don’t need a lawyer and just want to file a simple divorce, you can order the forms and do it yourself, or you can get DocuPro to do it for you.

The best resources I can find are on the excellent web site provided by Greenwood & Black, including information on a variety of divorce topics, such as child support, division of debts, and taxes. There’s also a free, interactive child support calculator. I wish more family law firms made this kind of commitment.

The Utah State Courts have guides dealing with divorce, child custody, parenting plans, and other topics.

Utah is on the forefront of the movement for “virtual visitation” – providing parents and their children time together assisted by technology. Utah Code §30-3-32(d) provides:

(d) “Virtual parent-time” means parent-time facilitated by tools such as telephone, email, instant messaging, video conferencing, and other wired or wireless technologies over the Internet or other communication media to supplement in-person visits between a noncustodial parent and a child or between a child and the custodial parent when the child is staying with the noncustodial parent. Virtual parent-time is designed to supplement, not replace, in-person parent-time.
